New Delhi, October 25, 2025:
The Indian government has officially launched the ‘Bharat Taxi’ app, a national taxi-hailing platform aimed at providing affordable, transparent, and safe cab services across the country. The initiative, introduced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), seeks to support local taxi operators and reduce the dominance of private aggregators like Ola and Uber.
The Bharat Taxi app is integrated with Digital India and Smart Mobility initiatives, offering standardised fares, verified drivers, and real-time safety tracking. The app will initially operate in 25 cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Hyderabad, before expanding to tier-2 and tier-3 cities by mid-2026.
Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said the app will empower both passengers and drivers by eliminating unfair commission structures. Drivers will receive 90% of the fare directly, ensuring better income stability.
The app also allows users to book rides through voice commands in 10 Indian languages, promoting inclusivity and accessibility.
