Nikhil Kamath Invests $21 Million in Nothing | Boosts Carl Pei’s Smartphone Brand

In a major boost to India’s startup ecosystem, Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath has invested $21 million (around ₹175 crore) in the UK-based smartphone company Nothing, founded by Carl Pei. This investment marks one of Kamath’s largest personal bets in the consumer tech sector.

Nothing, known for its innovative smartphone designs and transparent aesthetics, has been expanding rapidly in India — one of its biggest markets. The brand’s latest device, Phone (3), has seen strong sales, especially among young tech-savvy users.

Kamath’s investment is expected to help Nothing scale its India operations, strengthen R&D capabilities, and expand into wearables and AI-driven devices.

Speaking about the investment, Kamath said, “Nothing represents the kind of innovation India needs to support — a global brand built with design, transparency, and user experience in mind.”

Carl Pei welcomed the investment, saying it will help Nothing push the boundaries of technology and design while deepening its roots in India’s tech landscape.

This move also reflects a growing trend of Indian investors backing global consumer tech ventures, signalling India’s rising influence in shaping the global tech scene.
